St Augustine’s RC Primary, Felling.

st-augustinesA large extension to the existing school, including new main entrance, constructed while the school remained fully operational.

This project involved a substantial new build extension to house six additional teaching rooms, new entrance, library and toilets as well as a new fully glazed link corridor giving access from the existing school buildings.

The school remained fully operational throughout this nine month building programme and so safeguarding the staff, students and the public was a major influence on the planning and programming of the works.

The Objective

Safeguarding pupils and staff was our primary concern on this project. The areas of the school affected by the works were screened off with controlled access ‐ Our Site Manager checked all visitors to site and daily briefings took place with all site staff.

_S4I1246xC562-St-Augustines-03Deliveries were controlled and supervised, being timed to avoid busy periods at the beginning and end of the school day. The sensitive work associated with creating the new entrance and corridor link was timed to coincide with school holidays.

Our on site Project Manager built a close working relationship with the school, so much so that at the official opening of the completed extension the head teacher remarked they had thought of renaming the school St Simon’s after our project manager, Simon Manners!

The Solution

The project was completed within budget and on programme, creating new teaching rooms, library and entrance to the school, meettng our client’s aspirations fully.
