Helen Goodman MP helps us to celebrate 150 years

17 March 2010

T Manners & Sons Ltd, the Region’s oldest, family owned construction company, is celebrating 150 years since it was founded in Bishop Auckland by Thomas Manners, great-grandfather of the present Managing Director, Robert Manners.
A plaque to mark the occasion was unveiled by Helen Goodman MP at the company’s headquarters on South Church Enterprise Park, Bishop Auckland. After the ceremony she was able to view some of the projects under construction in the company’s modern joinery workshops, including a full size mock-up of one of the police charge desks that the company’s specialist joinery division have created and installed for police forces across the country.

After meeting members of staff and the company’s Board of Directors, Helen Goodman said, “"I am really pleased to be able to celebrate this anniversary with a successful local firm. The joinery workshop which I visited was doing first class work. I wish them well for the second 150 years."

“We are very proud to have reached this extraordinary landmark,” said Robert Manners, “a century and a half is a remarkable achievement and I am particularly pleased to see that my son, Simon has joined the company, ensuring that a fifth generation of our family will carry on building across the Region.”
