Building Fire Burning
Fire doors have been in the news a lot recently. There have been cases where 30 minute fire doors have failed after only 15 minutes exposure to fire. Specifiers and building owners are beginning to ask how they can be sure that the doors and door sets chosen will perform as they should.

Recognising that this was an issue of increasing concern to many of our clients in the housing, health and education sectors, we sought certification under TRADA’S Q-Mark scheme for the manufacture, installation and maintenance of fire doors. This certification involves detailed scrutiny of our practices and procedures in the manufacture and installation of fire doors. To obtain certification we had to:
• Develop comprehensive procedures to ensure consistent quality in the materials and manufacture of our doors and sets
• Train our operatives in the correct procedures for manufacture, fitting and maintenance of fire doors
• Demonstrate our ability to deliver on these procedures to Q-Mark auditors appointed by TRADA who undertake scheduled visits in line with the accreditation requirements.
Having succeeded in all aspects of this process, it was only left for us to have one of our doors tested to destruction in TRADA’S testing rig to demonstrate that it ‘Does What it Says on the Tin’.

We are proud to announce that our door passed the test without reservation, providing full protection for beyond the required 60 minute period.
Our doors are manufactured from high quality materials to achieve FD30 or FD60 Ratings
Our trained operatives ensure that every detail of fitting meets the required standards and our Q_Mark Certification ensures that building owners receive documented evidence to demonstrate this.
Correct maintenance of a fire door is essential to ensure that it will continue to work as intended during a fire. Our certification under TRADA’s Q-Mark for fire door maintenance provides a means of certifying maintenance operations to the building owner with a label being affixed to the door which confirms that the work carried out meets the requirements of the scheme.
Fire doors are a life safety product designed to prevent the spread of fire and smoke and protect escape routes. Both the Building Regulations and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO) require that the person installing or carrying out maintenance on fire doors is competent. Independent certification, such as TRADA’s Q-Mark scheme, is the accepted means of demonstrating competency.
T Manners & Sons Ltd are TRADA Q_Mark accredited for the installation and maintenance of fire doors as well as manufacture, making us one of only a handful of companies that can offer their clients this level of expertise. If you want to know more:
