Designed by Dunwoodie Architects, Newcastle, this single storey building was created with quality in mind as the materials used, although sympathetic to the surroundings, were both bold and innovative with real attention to detail.

Because of its very nature, the treatment and diagnosis of cardiological problems, the internal emphasis was one of calmness and tranquillity. The central waiting area, which is deceptively spacious and uses natural lighting and ventilation to very good effect, is an excellent example of the overall design ethos.
